1988 Mustang GT
Bought in 1987, by my friend Kerri's sister, Vicki, This car knew it was destined for greatness. Vicki had this car for approx. 5 years, and it was kept bone stock. The only thing that was done to it in this time was a window tint job and a bra was fitted on it!!! (yuck) Apparently, Vicki decided she needed more of a family car and sold the Mustang to my best friends (Thad) brother, Warren.
(Pictures of the original car coming soon)
Warren worked for Preferred Auto Body in Jupiter and immediately prepped the car for a paint job. A little ford 9-L white and some Glasurite blue-pearl with many layers of clear coat should do the job just fine, he decided.
The car sat in the shop for a month or so, all of the body panels coming off and masking up windows and such for painting. Everything was painted... you can not find the original paint anywhere on this car... I've looked!!
The only mods that Warren did to the car was put headlight and taillight covers on it, besides the paint. The car was the first car around here with the pearl paint job (and still the only one with THAT kind). It turned heads then and still does now.
Now, Warren had a habit of going away for weekends leaving his keys at home with Thad. ;) We beat that car up. Donuts, brake stands, racing, revving to the limiter, top speed runs, etc., etc., etc....
Donut:

Then Warren moved to the Bahamas and the car was used for a work horse, toting children, groceries, Christmas trees, and other stuff around. Nobody really wanted to drive it, because the power steering was starting to fail. It sat for a good year and a half in Thad's yard, broken into once, the CD player stolen. Thad already got his firebird, so he didn't need it.
(Pictures of the unappreciated car Soon!)
At the time, I was driving a 1986 Nissan Sentra that went from my brother, to my parents, to me. That car was fine, but sooo slow and small. It had some weird problem with it not being able to go long distances. (never resolved) My parents finally sold it in Key West where it will never leave, and probably CAN never leave, due to its long distance problem. It's the perfect town for it. Good luck to the new owners!

Finally, I could take no more!! I knew Thad's mother was trying to sell the Mustang to no avail, while it sat in the yard with no gas, no stereo, and no power steering. She asked 4,000.00 for it, and said payments were great! ( ;) Thank you mom 2! Without you this site would be about the Nissan!!!)
So I took it.
and loved every second.
and still love every second!
Immediately after I got the stang, performance upgrades happened. The poor car was bone stock for FAR too long! The very first thing I did was take the silencer off and chucked it.... Then I got a K&N filter. At the end I will do a list of mods in order of purchase.
The first time at Moroso (Local drag strip) I sucked... I had never really drag raced a car before, and I was nervous. I got a horrible reaction time and spun the tires bad.
It was a 16.201 at 91.11 mph...... ugh... lost to a '95 RX-7
Second race was 16.197 at 92.45 mph... lost to a '90 Mustang LX
(to see all the times click here)
Things needed to be done, and quick!
Here is what I have done to get it to mid 13's:
- Take off silencer
- K&N air filter in stock box
- underdrive pulleys
- MSD coil
- Motorsport 8mm wires
- Splitfire spark plugs
- Mobil 1 Synthetics
- Lakewood traction bars (grrrr... speedbump scrapers)
- 2 1/2" Flowmaster 2 chambers
- Mac 2 1/2" off-road h-pipe
- 1 5/8" Steeda headers
- Cobra intake manifold
- 65 mm throttle body
- Hypertech power chip
- world class t-5 (two of them!)
- 190 lph Motorsport fuel pump
- Vortech fuel pressure regulator
- switched from speed density to mass air
- Vortech 70mm maf meter
- 3.55 Motorsport rear gear (still in box)
- B&M Ripper shifter
- Cervini 2 1/2" Stormin' Norman hood with functional Ram Air
- 1 inch phenolic spacer
- Motorsport lowering springs and Koni and kyb shocks and struts
my best run yet with these mods was 13.541 AT 105.69 mph
Who knows what it will run now. I have yet to take it Moroso... I need to put those gears on, which have been sitting in the box for 4 years! But with 175,000 miles on the stock bottom end.. I am getting a little nervous about running it... I race it pretty much every day, but I don't pound it, like I would at the track!!
This is what it is today... (for now)
